Digital Culture and Literature Working Group: Reading Group

November 29, -
You are invited to the Digital Culture and Literature Working Group's inaugural reading group meet-up on November 29th at 5:00 p.m. at the FHI PhD Lab. Over the course of the rest of the academic year, we will host a monthly meeting to discuss digital culture and literature broadly defined. All levels of familiarity are welcome! Light refreshments will be served.

Our first reading covers Melanie Walsh and Maria Antoniak's article titled "The Goodreads 'Classics': A Computational Study of Readers, Amazon, and Crowdsourced Amateur Criticism." As the title suggests, the article discusses how the Goodreads social networking site is reconfiguring what constitutes "literary classics," as everyday users take advantage of this new public space to debate, rate, and critique literature (without necessarily having the training, breadth of read material, etc. to participate in a nuanced way).

Please email Tanja Grubnic (tanja.grubnic@duke.edu) for the pdf of the reading material and for further questions.
