Maddie examined the role of women in the electrification of the rural United States. She uses papers of Louisan Mamer, a home economist hired by the Rural Electrification Administration to encourage home electric appliance use by farmers’ wives, preserved by the National Museum of American History. Through the story of Louisan Mamer, Maddie explored how women’s roles expanded and changed during the rural electrification period.
