Collie Fulford's current research project focuses on the lived experiences of adult HBCU students who are engaged in academic, workplace, community, family, and self-sponsored literacies. Her key questions are: How do disparate literacies inform or conflict with each other? What resources do nontraditional students draw upon and what challenges do they encounter as they crisscross between literacy domains? She anticipates that insights gleaned from adult African American women and other nontraditional HBCU students will contribute complexity to our models of literacy knowledge and its movement across discourse communities.
